Zombicide:Invader -- Warhammer 40K size comparisons

Hi again,

the new Zombicide:Invader miniatures are pretty awesome and since the setting is similar, the obvious question that comes to mind is: how about using the miniatures in Warhammer 40k? Or the other way around?

So, let's compare the Zombicide:Invader miniatures to typical Warhammer 40k miniatures.

Good news is the scale roughly matches!

On the other hand, the Zombicide:Invader miniatures are "true-scale", i.e., they are realistically proportioned, different to the Warhammer miniatures, which are in "heroic" scale. In other words, the former have a completely different aesthetic from the latter! However, this might not bother everybody (as much as it does me). And anyway, this mostly (only) applies to the survivors. The xenos miniatures are easily compatible.

Enough talk, here the comparison pictures:

SURVIVORS

First the soldiers in power amour compared to Primaris Space Marines:

As one can see, the Invader Soldiers are a tiny bit smaller than the Primaris and much less 'bulky'.

Now to the civilians:

So the civilians are taller than the Warhammer humans, roughly one head. So for me, this is too much of a difference. Although with the recent size creep among the new Warhammer miniatures, the difference to Rogue Trader or Necromunda miniatures (in particular Delaque) is probably less. On the bright side, the heads are the same size! :-)

XENOS

I think that the Xenos would work as Warhammer miniatures much better:

Want some alternative Gene Stealers?! Here you go:

I think that the abominations would work particularly well (as Tyranids) in Warhammer 40k:

On the other hand, if you do not like the Zombicide:Invader miniatures (or can not buy them), you could also easily play the game with Warhammer 40k miniatures! E.g., replacing the Xenos with Tyranids...

Happy xenos hunting!

How big are the new Chaos Terminators?

Hi there!

Just a mid-week quicky: GW published a few images of the new Chaos Terminators, and I immediately asked myself, "how big are they?" Are they scale-up in any way? Maybe even Abaddon size?

Let's sse:

First old vs new:

Turns out they are almost the same size! :-( I was hoping for some significant scale-up to bring them closer to "true scale", but looks like this did not happen.

This leaves them also much smaller than Abaddon, who was also wearing a terminator armour if I remember correctly?!

I moved the Terminator up a bit to match the level of the boots, i.e., taking into account that Abaddon stands on quite some rubble (and a Primaris Lieutneant ;-)).

Well, too bad...

Shadowspear -- Size comparisons -- Chaos Troops

Hi again,

after building the most amazing new Chaos miniatures of the Shadowspear box, of course I could not resist to make some size comparison pictures:

1. The Greater Possessed in comparison to the Primaris Space Marines:

As you can see they are indeed even bigger than Primaris Marines.

The next picture shows a comparison to one random "normal" Possessed.

In the above picture, the lines in the background mark the length of one centimetre. One the far right, is the Black Legion Chaos Space Marine converted  from a Primaris Marine in  Mk X Tacticus Power Armour.

2. The new Obliterators in comparison to the old ones:

Obviously, the new models is much larger and even bulkier. But interestingly, the head stayed almost on the same height level.

Here you can see how the Obliterators give some heat to some poor Primaris:

And the proper comparison with scale in the background:

3. Chaos Space Marines in power armour.

First of an image showing the evolution of the Chaos Space Marines over the last ~20 years:

From left to right: A "classical" Marine as we used (and loved) them over the years, next a Marine from the Dark Vengeance box, then in the middle the one from the Blackstone Fortress, then the new one from Shadowspear and finally a Primaris-sized one.

Interestingly, the biggest jump in size appears to have happened with the Dark Vengeance Marines from many years ago! Then the one from Blackstone Fortress is just marginally bigger and gave us an outlook at the new scale of the Chaos Marines.
So, not surprisingly, the Shadowspear Chaos Marines are the same size.

Unfortunately, this means that they are still significantly shorter than the Primaris Marines, which are basically "true-scale" sized, and what I would have loved to see. That also leaves them somewhat smaller than their Deathguard cousins (this is a bit hard to see below though, sorry!):

Here some more combinations:

1. Power armour: oldest versus "how they should be":

2. Adding in the Shadowspear Marines, which are going to be the new standard for the next decade, I guess...

From the back, Shadowspear versus Primaris:

Let's have a look at the heroes:

From left to right: Classical, Fabius Gallus, the villain from Dark Vengeance, Blackstone Fortress, Shadowspear, and Primaris scale at the end.

Some more heroes, namely good old Huron and the new outrageous Kharn:

It is hard to see in the image because of his leaning pose, but the new Kharn is actually Primaris scale! You can see this by checking the length of his limbs and so on....

For completeness, here the comparison of the Venomcrawler to Primaris:

And finally a little "family portrait" of all the new units:

To conclude: the new sizes of the Obliterators and basically the Possessed sit very well with me, while I wished the new Chaos Marines in Power Armour to be a bit bigger. Now, given the Obliterators and new, fancy Abaddon's size one could wonder how new Chaos Terminators would be sized. The new artwork (featuring Abaddon) together with some of the unsolved spoiler from the Daemon machine also gives hope that they might be around the corner. We will see soon I guess...

The Despoiler is back!! Bigger, better & more evil!!

FINALLY! I can not believe it! When I started collecting Chaos Space Marines back in 2003 (yep that is 16 years!!!), the Abaddon model was already oldish and ugly. And now! Look at this beauty!

Needless to say that I am super happy that they scaled him up and did NOT go overboard with new bling and effects but instead stayed close to the original style/design!

Here some size comparisons for those who always wonder about those things (like me! ;-)):

As you can see everything got scaled up but the ridiculous top knot!! Yeah!

Versus Primaris:

And of course, the duel we will see a lot in the future:

Who will win?!

Anyway, for completeness, here the reason for why we REALLY needed a new model:

Blackstone Fortress Chaos Troops Size Comparison

Greetings to all the super accurate miniature lovers out there!

I guess most of us agree that the new Blackstone Fortress Box miniatures are awesome sculpts (with lots of conversion potential).

However, those how have visited my blog before, know that I have a weakness for accurate scales (e.g., true scale), and I thus I could not resist to first take some comparison shots of the new Chaos Space Marines and Heretic Imperial troops with their loyalist peers and older versions of themselves.

As you can see below the new Chaos Space Marine models are indeed slightly taller than the old (e.g., Dark Vengeance) brethren but still slightly shorter than Primaris height.

Also the heretic troops are taller than e.g., the Cadian but fortunately not as tall as the new Delaque (what was GW thinking?!).

Blackstone Fortress Chaos Space Marines -- approximate estimated size comparison

In case you wondered as well about the actual proportions of the new Chaos Space Marines from the Blackstone Fortress Box, see the following pics. I scaled them to each other matching the 32mm base size.

As you can see, they are not going to be Primaris size and might even be a bit smaller than the new Plague Marines. But they are definitely significantly larger than the old venerated Chaos Space Marines.

Looks like Abaddon  managed to dope his followers in the last ~200 years to deal with the new Primaris! Maybe, he had help from Fabius Gallus???

Anyway:

!!!DEATH TO THE FALSE EMPEROR!!!

Space Wolves -- Haldor Icepelt from Tooth & Claw

This is my interpretation of the Space Wolves. Less silly colours, more brutal -- to the face! Haldor Icepelt in all his glory from the new Tooth and Claw Box.

Hope you like him! Might even do another Space Wolf some time... ;-)

Honestly, I have to say that after reading (listening) to some of the Horus Heresy novels, I like the Space Wolves a bit more (they were certainly not my favorite chapter, neither from the style nor the fluff I have to say -- sorry you Vilka Fenricastistas out there! Just my personal taste...)

Finally, a little photoshop... ;-) Cheers!
